CEC of Belarus: All international observers will be accredited at the elections-2024

11 января 2024

All international observers, who will come to Belarus for the elections-2024, including not only missions and parliamentary structures, but also individual experts from various countries, including EU countries, will be accredited in accordance with the legislation and will be able to observe the elections. This was announced today by the Chairman of the Central Election Commission Igor Karpenko.

In particular, he commented on the information that Belarus would refrain from inviting OSCE observers to the elections.

Igor Karpenko:

“We observed that back in May 2023, the OSCE website published a report "On the Serious Threat to the Human Dimension in Belarus," where everything was assessed in negative tones, in particular, the referendum held in 2022 and the political reform that was carried out then. That is, it was all predictable. Observers are needed, and we will have them. There is already feedback from the CIS mission. There is also feedback from the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly. We hold elections for ourselves, not for foreign countries - that's one thing. Secondly, the function of any observer, including international observers, is to answer the main question: did the election process comply with the national legislation and was everything organized in accordance with this legislation?”
