As follows from the generalization of court practice, the prevailing reason for the dissolution of marriage is insurmountable differences in views, lack of common interest and incompatibility of characters. These reasons account for half of all reasons for divorce in Belarus, said deputy chairman of the Supreme Court Andrei Zabara, BelTA informs.
The share of such causes as inappropriate behavior of one of the spouses (alcoholism, drug and gambling addiction, domestic violence) accounts for 12%. Separation of spouses for a long time, including those associated with migration, became the cause of divorce in 19% of cases, while marital infidelity in 7%. Loss of affection for each other, love and respect as a reason for divorce was mentioned by about 12% of spouses.
As Andrei Zabara said, these statistics show that many people entering into marriage, including young people, are not prepared for married life and do not imagine the possible difficulties they will face.
The deputy chairman of the Supreme Court noted that the number of divorces is not decreasing. In 2021 over 59 thousand marriages were registered by civil status agencies, and in total about 40 thousand marriages were dissolved through registries and court decisions.
