President meets with Belarusian ambassador to China

1 августа 2022
On August 1, the President met with Ambassador of Belarus to China Yuri Senko. New opportunities in cooperation with the world's largest economy were on the agenda. The level of relations with China that we have already achieved is a serious economic security cushion. Today the details of our country's future accession to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization have become known. A short-term personal meeting between the leaders of Belarus and China is also underway.

Alexander Lukashenko, President of the Republic of Belarus:

“Well done, they've been helping us a lot. Even now we have a decent increase in trade turnover, new opportunities. And we can easily add to the Chinese direction. I often told Xi Jinping: if that huge Chinese engine hooks up an extra car in the volume of Belarus, he will not even notice that something is hooked there. This is such a giant economy. It's good that we have such relations in diplomacy and politics. I also have very good personal relations with Xi Jinping's family.”

A solid political foundation opens up better opportunities in the economy. Cooperation in large-scale transnational projects is one of the most promising areas.

Yuri Senko, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to China:

“In the area of economic relations, we simply have unique opportunities to increase the pace of work with China, which, in fact, has been done for the last seven years since China announced the Belt and Road initiative. It was a serious boost when Belarus joined this initiative and actively started working with China at an increasing pace.”

Belarus supplies potash fertilizers, timber, food and agricultural products to China. The supplies of our foodstuffs to China grew by 75% in the first five months of 2022.

Contacts continue at the highest level. Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko and President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping are going to have a meeting on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Samarkand in September. A decision to start the procedure of accession of Belarus to the SCO is also planned to be made at that forum. This will enable our country to join all the projects that are in this multimillion-dollar international structure.
