Inter-confessional peace is the main achievement of Belarus. This was stated by Alexander Lukashenko at today's meeting with the Synod of the Belarusian Orthodox Church. The head of state expressed his gratitude to Metropolitan of Minsk and Zaslavl Veniamin, the High Priest of All Belarus, for the invitation to take part in the Synod. But before that, candles were lit in the church of the Cathedral of All Belarusian Saints.

President: World Orthodoxy is going through difficult times

The policy of Belarus is aimed at maintaining religious tolerance, peace and harmony between people of different faiths. And in this the goals of the country's leadership and the Church are united. Dialogue is especially important in the current conditions, when the geopolitical situation in the world is unpredictable. Therefore, the state is pinning great hopes on the Church to maintain the unity of the nation and civil accord, especially since the Orthodox hierarchs have high authority in the Belarusian society - millions of compatriots listen to them. Alexander Lukashenko remarked that this meeting with the Synod is of great importance now - on the eve of important political events inside the country and a difficult situation on the external circuit.

The President noted with regret that the world Orthodoxy is going through difficult times: "We have to admit it. It is impossible to look at the religious confrontation in our brotherly Ukraine without pain: the seizure of churches, criminal prosecution of priests, the struggle for the head of the Orthodox Church, and the struggle for the head of the church.”
