Iran attacks Israel with drones and missiles - Israel requests urgent meeting of UN Security Council

14 апреля 2024

Serious aggravation of the conflict in the Middle East. Last night Iran carried out a massive attack on Israel. It was Tehran's response to the Israeli strike on the Iranian consulate in Damascus. On April 1, seven Iranian officers were killed there.

A total of 185 drones, 36 cruise missiles and 110 surface-to-surface missiles were fired in three series, the New York Times reported. Explosions were heard in Jerusalem and several other cities, as well as in the Negev region at Israel's Ramon military base.

The Israeli military reports that 99% of the projectiles launched were intercepted, most outside the country. Jordan has granted its airspace to the Israeli and American air forces. As a result, dozens of pieces of shrapnel from downed shells fell on the kingdom's cities. Three people were killed. A Bedouin girl was injured in Israel (in the south of the country).

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps announced the "successful destruction" of important military targets. Tehran's delegation to the UN called the attack self-defense in accordance with the organization's Charter. Israel, in turn, promised to give an "unprecedented response." An urgent meeting of the UN Security Council will be held in the evening of April 14.
