Regional SDG Coordination Leaders Forum held in Minsk

Belarus will always provide reliable support for the United Nations. President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said this at a meeting with UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed. She is visiting Belarus for the first time. Today, a regional forum of national coordinators for the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals has opened in Minsk.

The goals of sustainable development were adopted at the historic UN summit in 2015. The list of 17 goals is aimed at elimination of poverty, combating inequality and injustice, and addressing the challenges of climate change. Belarus takes active part in the realization of 17 planetary priorities. We have made a number of steps to achieve these goals. The Government approved the National Strategy for Sustainable Social and Economic Development for the period until 2030. The work in this area is carried out by the state in cooperation with business circles, civil society and international organizations.

The regional forum of SDG coordinators gathered in Minsk representatives of 40 countries.

Our country was the initiator of the regional forum. The President of Belarus sent a greeting to the participants. According to Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei, today the foundations are laid for the partnership of SDG coordinators.
