President visits Belarusian nuclear power plant construction site in Ostrovets

Belarus’ President Alexander Lukashenko has visited the industrial base of the Belarusian NPP in Ostrovets. He was interested in security issues and stressed that the construction process should be carried out without haste. He was informed that the works are carried out in strict compliance with the schedule and quality regulations.

The construction of the first unit is due to be completed in 2018, the second one is planned to be commissioned in 2020. Next year is scheduled to see the installation of a nuclear reactor, turbine and steam generators, as well as main equipment deliveries. Alexander Lukashenko has held talks with Rosatom Director General Sergei Kiriyenko.

The President also spoke with Ostrovets residents and Belarusian nuclear power plant construction workers and future employees, who were interested in the possibility of constructing infrastructure and sports facilities in Ostrovets.
