The working visit of the President of Belarus to Russia continues. Alexander Lukashenko and Vladimir Putin have a busy program scheduled for January 28 in St. Petersburg. The leaders took part in a videoconference dedicated to the commissioning of the new wintering complex of the Vostok station in Antarctica.

The work is underway there to study the climate and magnetic field of the Earth, meteorological and geophysical observations on the study of natural ice, properties of materials at low temperatures. Belarus has been implementing its Antarctic program for a number of years.

Antarctic Program of Belarus

The country started its way in the development of Antarctica (with the support of the head of state) in 2006. The results of research in the polar region are important not only from the fundamental but also from the practical point of view: geophysical processes taking place in Antarctica determine the planet's climate and the preservation of biodiversity. The Belarusian Research Station is also under construction in East Antarctica. In 2021, the creation of its first stage was completed, and by 2026 it is planned to finish the formation of the second stage. The composition and technical characteristics of the station make it possible to provide safe conditions for the work of the polar team of up to 15 people.

The President of Belarus congratulated the scientists on the opening of the new wintering complex in Antarctica.
