By Andrey Krivosheev: Belarus should step up efforts to develop the digital economy. This was the statement of the Belarusian President at a meeting to discuss a draft decree “Concerning the development of the digital economy”. At the meeting in the Palace of Independence, Alexander Lukashenko talked to high-ranking government officials and famous representatives of the IT community.

Back in spring, Alexander Lukashenko spoke about turning Belarus into an IT country. Today, specific steps in the form of a draft decree were proposed to the President for consideration. The document provides for the most favorable conditions for the development of the IT industry, capital raising, and the development of new technologies, such as blockchain. The document also envisages measures to promote artificial intelligence, robotics, and bio-technology. In addition, it will create conditions for the transformation of traditional industries and reforming education.

Experts note that the document will serve as a basis for a new global economy. The decree has already been dubbed revolutionary. It is expected that the President will sign it in the coming days.
