The sovereignty and independence of Belarus are inviolable. At the same time, Belarus will never be Russia's enemy. This was stated by President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko at the meeting on the Belarusian-Russian cooperation

Alexander Lukashenko pointed out that a period of time after the attempted coup in Belarus allowed confirming the correctness of the chosen course towards rapprochement with Russia and the timeliness of the relevant measures, including the approval of the package of integration documents within the Union State. "These programs in no way affect the independence, the sovereignty of either Belarus or Russia," said the President.

The head of the state spoke frankly about the talks about the sovereignty and independence of Belarus due to the deepening of cooperation with Russia. "I can see that the situation is being stirred up now. Especially after these large-scale talks, everyone will say that that's it: there is no power in Belarus anymore, the Russians are already walking here and ruling the country. I would like to stress this once again: no one rules Belarus but us. These are our functions according to the Constitution, including mine. We perform these functions," said the Belarusian leader.

The President noted that the Belarusian state was once ready to continue living and working within the framework of the Soviet Union, but nevertheless the acquired sovereignty and independence are inviolable: "We were ready to live, serve and work in one state. Its name was the Soviet Union. Everything was before my eyes. But we did not destroy it. And whence came the tendency to destroy this state, we, though unexpectedly, got these sovereignty and independence. We should keep it sacred. Because this is what the Belarusian people want."

At the same time, the President stressed the importance of maintaining friendly and allied relations with Russia. "But we will never be Russia's enemies. We will never look awry at Russia. It is the country closest to us, the people closest to us. I think as long as you and I are in power, we will keep this tendency."
