President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has outlined the main tasks and directions in the development of cooperation in the Union State both in the current period and in the future. The head of state made the relevant statements at the session of the Supreme State Council of the Union State in St. Petersburg, BelTA informs.

The head of state said that by the end of 2023 the parties will renew the historical maximum of trade in goods and services. "Vladimir Vladimirovich called the figure for 10 months - more than $40 billion, but if you take the whole year (goods and services) - $54 billion approximately will be. This is really a historical maximum. Achievement of high indicators is largely the result of the implementation of activities of 28 Union programs, within the framework of which the fundamental decisions have been made. But we have yet to develop common criteria for assessing the effectiveness of their implementation," the President noted.

The reports of the governments on the implementation of the main directions of the provisions of the Treaty on the Establishment of the Union State for 2021-2023 are the key ones at the current meeting of the Unified State Council. The agenda also includes approval of a new program document for the next three-year cycle - for 2024-2026. It envisages the continuation of work to strengthen the common economic space and remove the remaining obstacles to trade.

According to Alexander Lukashenko, it is important to strengthen the international positioning of the union, as it is done in the EAEU.
