Do Ukraine and Poland stand shoulder to shoulder? This myth lies in ruins

1 октября 2023

The way the West uses manpower on different fronts and then writes it off as scrap is no secret at all. Those who seemed to be friends and helpers become outcasts - a number of fugitives are already shown the door. This is what happens with Ukrainian refugees. Hundreds of thousands could return from Poland to Ukraine due to the standoff between Warsaw and Kiev, as well as "discrimination" in the Polish labor market. It seems we are all witnessing the end of the proverbial "eternal friendship." For decades, Poland and Ukraine were united by a common enemy, Russia, but now even this was not enough.

The conflict was also frozen by the fact that neither Warsaw nor Ukraine have ever been independent in making decisions: however, as it has now turned out, they serve different masters who, accordingly, have mutually exclusive interests - how can they help grabbing each other’s forelocks and knocking down the bonnets? Oleg Romanov got down into the issue.

As we remember, Zelensky, during a UN speech, accused some unnamed Europeans of false alliances - the hint was transparent, but still was only a hint: how could he destroy a friendship that was sealed by many treaties and countless embraces of senior government officials? It turns out he could: now, during public speeches, Polish politicians ritually shake their fist at the Ukrainian leadership every time. Moreover, they follow the principle: repeat what is good again and again - that’s why you can hear the same thing from the same mouth many times.

Mateusz Morawiecki, Prime Minister of Poland (Poland):  I address these words to Zelensky, who has recently been making completely unnecessary gestures and uttering completely inappropriate words. Mr. President, don’t you dare insult the Poles. But I also want to warn Zelensky: never again insult Poles, as he did recently during his speech at the UN.

Moreover, this is what the politicians in power say: those who are only striving for this very power are even less constrained by decency. The main rival of the ruling Law and Justice party is the Confederation movement: it will probably be second in the elections on October 15. In any bargaining to create a coalition, the latter will have a decisive role, so the confederates are trying to get more votes and are galloping forward at full speed, riding precisely on the anti-Ukrainian horse.

Krzysztof Bosak, Member of the Sejm from the Confederation Party: The myth about the Polish-Ukrainian partnership, and even more so about friendship, that we stand shoulder to shoulder - this myth lies in ruins. And the Confederation is the only force that correctly assessed the dynamics of relations between Poland and Ukraine - Kiev tried to exploit Polish gullibility!

The Polish voter is tired of Ukraine: it has been the main factor in the domestic politics for too long, it consumes, from the point of view of the average person, too much money, in his opinion, the average person, there are too many Ukrainians in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and they are extremely annoying. That is why it is now impossible to overdo it with anti-Ukrainianism in political propaganda - this product sells best.

Stanislav Tyszka, Vice-Speaker of the Sejm, Confederation Party: Before the elections, the Law and Justice government begins to talk like us - but the milk was spilled a year and a half ago and has already turned sour: it cannot be collected back into the can! Huge sums have been spent on helping Ukraine, and Ukraine, by all indications, now gets along better with Germany, but is at odds with Poland.

The Polish government is trying not to give any reason to suspect itself of being Philo-Ukrainian. Refugees from a neighboring country will have their social payments cut starting next year. The Poles are strongly against letting the Ukrainian grain into their country - except in transit and in sealed wagons. And Kiev is threatened with an embargo on agricultural products if it is disobedient. It is no coincidence that they probably also remembered the story of the missile that killed two Poles last November: then Warsaw almost demanded collective defense on the basis of Article 5 of the NATO Charter - after all, the missile was, without any doubt, Putin’s. But suddenly, albeit belatedly, the truth was revealed.

Zbigniew Ziobro, Minister of Justice of Poland (Poland): The investigation carried out by the Polish prosecutor's office expressly indicates that the missile was Ukrainian - back of Soviet origin. The location of the launch and its affiliation with a military group are beyond doubt: it was a Ukrainian missile. As for cooperation in the investigation with the Ukrainian side, I will say frankly: unfortunately, there was no cooperation.

But a weak Ukraine, barely surviving thanks to outside aid in arms and money, is hardly a worthy adversary: a stronger enemy is needed to convince voters that they live in a besieged fortress.

It suddenly turned out that Germany and France, who were behind Ukraine and Zelensky, had plotted against Poland. Paris and Berlin are trying to overthrow the Polish government with Ukrainian hands: this scheme was unraveled by TVP channel correspondent in Brussels Dominika Kosic. Obviously, Kosic would not have retained her accreditation for long if her concerns were not shared in the government offices in Warsaw: after all, TVP is a state channel. It is clear that the invasion of migrants is considered part of the pan-European war against Poland - it turns out that the refugee flood was also organized by the conspirators.

Dominik Tarczynski, Member of the European Parliament (Poland): We don’t need to push your crap about the need to accept educated immigrants. We don’t need these "doctors" of yours, we don’t need these "engineers" of yours. Take them for yourself and pay for it all yourself. We don't need to be taught democracy... We are democrats ourselves! Take an example from Poland, be like Poland.

Europe did not remain in debt: control was restored on the Polish-German border. No, of course, it is selective and temporary, because a permanent one is prohibited by the European Court - however, the duration of this measure is not known, and its severity may even be strengthened.

Nancy Faser, head of the German Interior Ministry: We must end the cruel business of human traffickers who make money by putting people's lives at risk. The Federal Police began additional checks on traffic routes, in particular on the borders with Poland and the Czech Republic.

The Poles are unofficially frightened even by the restoration of the visa regime with Europe - while this looks incredible, since it would mean the collapse of the fundamental principles of the organization of the Schengen space, however, we live in a time when even the impossible is coming true. In general, Poland is quickly turning from a virtually besieged fortress into a real stronghold, at the foot of which waves of enemy invasions break. Is the conflict between Warsaw and Kiev explained only by elections and the needs of political propaganda? Most likely not - the hostility is unlikely to subside after October 15, it has gained too much inertia. And, probably, Polish accusations against Germany and France, that is, Greater Europe, have some basis. Only a blind person would not notice that the West is clearly divided: The United States seem to want to turn the Ukrainian conflict into an endlessly long but smoldering one; London and Brussels are against this - they would prefer to tighten their efforts, give Kiev more weapons and end the confrontation on a victorious note.

Poland is clearly on the side of Washington here - it is not for nothing that it is often called the "European state of America." Since the United States is ready to fight remotely indefinitely, conflicts will probably blaze for a long time along the seams of European borders here and there, and fire from Ukraine will continue to spread both to the east and to the west. In general, there is no doubt: Poland will have more and more real reasons from year to year to believe that it is a besieged fortress.
