A downward tendency in the number of traffic accidents is recorded in Belarus. This was reported by the head of the department of organization of interdepartmental cooperation and road safety propaganda of the Main Department of traffic police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Veronika Romankova, reports BELTA.

In 9 months of 2023, 2.2 thousand road accidents were recorded in Belarus, in which 280 people were killed and about 2.4 thousand injured. This is 8% less than in the same period of 2022. The number of people killed and injured in accidents has decreased.

"If we talk about statistics, in general for five years we have saved 350 lives - minus 350 injured in road accidents," - said Veronika Romankova.

"One of the vulnerable categories is pedestrians. In January - September 583 accidents with their participation were recorded, about 300 were injured at crosswalks. The accidents occurred both through the fault of drivers and the victims themselves. Every fifth pedestrian was under the influence of alcohol", - Veronika Romankova emphasized.
