World Cancer Day is held annually by the Union for International Cancer Control with the support from the World Health Organisation. The initiative is consistently joined by Belarus.
Cancer is a growing problem for Belarus, with over half a million cases registered. Nevertheless, according to the Ministry of Health, the cancer death rate in the country continues declining – the figure has fallen by almost 12% over the last five years. An important role here is played not only by early diagnosis, but also by new methods of treatment.
