N. Kochanova: Belarus' chosen model for responding to coronavirus threats proves effective

The model chosen by Belarus to respond to coronavirus threats has proved its effectiveness. This was stated by the head of the Council of the Republic of Belarus. Natalya Kochanova addressed the participants of the Fifth Conference of Speakers of Parliaments. This year, it is dedicated to combating the pandemic, as well as achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, countering de-information online and offline.

Belarus proposes an initiative to create a digital neighborhood belt

Natalya Kochanova also stated that Belarus has an international initiative to create a digital neighborhood belt. The Speaker urged to sign an agreement on international digital security on the basis of respect for digital sovereignty and neutrality, as well as non-interference in each other's information resources.

The creation of a clear international legal framework in the field of information security will contribute, among other things, to effectively counter disinformation and incitement of hatred on the Internet and in real life. Such innovations have already been introduced in the national legislation of Belarus. Measures have been defined to protect the national information space in the media sphere, the list of prohibited types of information has been expanded, and approaches to media registration and re-registration have been improved.

V World Conference of Speakers of Parliament

Natalya Kochanova also announced that Belarus is in favor of finding ways to ease geopolitical tensions and strengthen international security. The conference will end tomorrow with the adoption of the Declaration.
