BSU scientists manage to boost yield and quality of flax

17 ноября 2022
The BSU developed an organo-mineral micro-fertilizer for flax. The team of the Research Institute of Physical and Chemical Problems of the BSU  was led by Elena Fomina,  the leading researcher of the laboratory of catalysis of polymerization processes. The fertilizer was created in order to improve the plant nutrition with microelements and amino acids and increase its resistance to low temperatures, drought and diseases, the press service of the Belarusian State University told sb.by.

The micro fertilizer also contains a water-soluble polymer, which is a film-forming and prolongation agent. Thanks to its presence, the probability of washing out of the active substances decreases, the pesticide load on plants is reduced, and the environmental safety is ensured.

The drug is a highly concentrated aqueous solution. The application technology consists in diluting 0.1 liters of micro fertilizer with water up to 200 liters. The obtained solution is designed for spraying of 1 ha of flax plants during the vegetation period.

The field trials of the micro fertilizer, carried out by the Flax Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, showed the increase of the seed yield and improved quality of flax fiber. The product passed state registration, was included into the State Register of plant protection agents (pesticides) and fertilizers permitted for use in Belarus, and is ready for wide application by agricultural enterprises.
