Russia is the most promising market for Belarus

Russia today is the most promising market for Belarus, said Minister of Economy of Belarus Alexander Chervyakov. He noted that, while last year the Russian market consumed imports of more than $200 billion, the Belarusian goods accounted only for 5.5% of this import.  In 2000, the share of Belarus in Russia's imports was 11%.

"We see that we can grow. By comparison, all exports to unfriendly countries and Ukraine account for about 16 billion. This is equal to what we supply to the Russian market today. So even if we reorient all of our exports towards the Russian market, we will be back to the level of 2000, when our share was 11%. Taking into account the reorientation this year we must increase the volume of exports to the Russian Federation by more than 30%. This is practically an increase of 5 billion U.S. dollars", summed up Alexander Chervyakov.
