Putin gains more than 87% of votes in Russian presidential election

After processing 90% of ballots in the Russian presidential election, which ended on March 17, the incumbent head of state Vladimir Putin gains more than 87% of votes. This is evidenced by the data of the electronic scoreboard of the Central Election Commission, reports BelTA.

The situation has been changing insignificantly since the beginning of the vote counting - the results fluctuate within 1%. Thus, according to the CEC after processing 90.51% of ballots, Vladimir Putin wins an unconditional victory and gains 87.21% of votes. Of the four candidates running in the election, Nikolai Kharitonov, a representative of the CPRF, is in second place with 4.29%. Next is Vladislav Davankov, a candidate from the New People party, who received 3.93% of the vote. In last place is the leader of the LDPR Leonid Slutsky - 3.16% of Russians voted for him.

According to the Russian Constitution, the President of the country is elected for six years. The CEC promises to announce the official preliminary results of the election by noon on March 18.
