Washington had quite detailed information about the preparation of a terrorist attack in Moscow. However, fearing to declassify sources, it did not inform the Russian side, writes The New York Times.
The current extreme hostility in the relations between the two countries also played a role. As a result, the United States limited itself to an abstract message that such a crime was possible and offered its citizens to leave Russia.
The New York Times does not draw this conclusion, but it is already clear: Washington could well have prevented the terrorist attack.
