Court of Arbitration for Sport overturns decision to disqualify Belarusian rowing and canoeing team

The Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne has found a year-long disqualification of the Belarusian men’s rowing and canoeing team illegal. The athletes were suspended from the Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro allegedly because of violating anti-doping rules.

The case was launched by the Belarusian Canoe Association and the men's national team against the International Canoe Federation.

According to a press release of the Court's decision, the Belarusian side’s claim has been completely satisfied. The decision to disqualify the Belarusian team has been canceled and the athletes have been fully justified. There were no grounds to support the imposition of the one-year ban on the Belarusian rowers.

The Belarusian side plans to file another suit against the International Canoe Federation to seek reimbursement for material and non-material damage.
