Double standards: IOC warns athletes against discriminatory behavior in respect of Israelis

2 ноября 2023

The International Olympic Committee has warned that it will ensure swift action is taken against those athletes, coaches and officials who allow themselves to discriminate against Israeli representatives at competitions. The IOC believes that athletes are not responsible for the actions of their governments.

"The IOC adheres to the concept of individual responsibility. Athletes cannot be held responsible for the actions of their authorities. In the event of discriminatory behavior by athletes or coaches, the IOC will work with the National Olympic Committee and the relevant International Federation to ensure swift action," the International Olympic Committee said.

Yet, this statement contradicts the position of the structure with regard to Belarusians and Russians. Recall, because of the situation in Ukraine, our athletes have been suspended from all world tournaments since February 2022. Recently, some federations have allowed athletes to compete, but our national teams can perform only in a neutral status (without flag and anthem) and only in individual disciplines. And before that we have to pass additional checks. The question of participation in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris is still open.
