First production car made in Belarus rolls off assembly line

By Andrey Krivosheev: The first production car made in Belarus rolled off the assembly line today. This was the symbolic and solemn way to open the Belgee plant in Borisov District. President Alexander Lukashenko also took part in the ceremony.

This is a unique project for the production of cars in the country, which meets all the world requirements of the automobile industry. The plant’s capacities allow producing 60,000 cars a year. In the future, the figure is planned to double.

For a consumer a car is a means of transportation – however, for a manufacturer, especially in Europe, it is a luxury. Finding your place in the crowded market is not easy now, so investors choose their business partners carefully.

For Belarus, the starting point was the year 2014. It was then that a contract for construction was signed with a Chinese corporation. Within two and a half years, a fundamentally new production was set up in Belarus.

At the moment, the plant produces one model of a crossover. Next year, the line of the Belarusian Geely will be expanded with another SUV and a sedan.

Geely plans to become a popular brand not only for consumers, but also for those who assemble cars. The level of localization, i.e., the share of parts produced domestically, is expected to reach at least 50%. This will allow redistributing orders to dozens of local subcontractors, which will guarantee jobs and salaries.
