Lukashenko signs decree on status of Belarusian cosmonauts

On March 19, the Head of State Alexander Lukashenko signed Decree No. 100 "On the Status of the Belarusian Cosmonaut", which enshrines the rights and duties of a cosmonaut of the Republic of Belarus. The document was adopted to determine the legal status of astronauts and persons equated to them, taking into account the implementation of the first space flight project in the sovereign history of Belarus, reported the press service of the Belarusian leader.

It is established that the status of an cosmonaut is assigned to a citizen of the Republic of Belarus, who has made a space flight, as well as to the understudy.

In order to recognize the merits of a cosmonaut to the Motherland, the decree provides for a number of benefits and preferences, including the preservation of the position, medical care at the Republican Clinical Medical Center, pension provisions, state support in the construction of housing.

At the same time, it is stipulated that the cosmonaut should correspond to his high rank, have a firm civil position, take an active part in the social and political life of the country, and represent the Republic of Belarus on the international arena with dignity.

The implementation of the decree will help to consolidate the positive image of the Republic of Belarus as a high-tech state, promote the knowledge and competences of the country in the field of peaceful exploration of outer space.
