8 senators from each region and Minsk will be determined by deputies of the Local Councils.
The procedure involves the program performances of the candidates. A public discussion of their candidacy takes place and then a secret ballot is held. The candidate who receives more than half of votes is considered elected. Another 8 senators are appointed by the President. A senator must be a citizen of Belarus who has turned 30 and has lived in the territory of the corresponding region or Minsk for at least 5 years and has no criminal record. The Central Election Commission will announce the results on November 12.
