Permanent ceasefire in Donbass starts on 23 December at midnight

The Trilateral Contact Group on Ukraine has agreed on an indefinite ceasefire in the Donbass starting at midnight on 23 December. The negotiators also confirmed their readiness to exchange prisoners before Christmas and New Year.

Martin Sajdik, the OSCE Special Representative in the Trilateral Contact Group, noted that both the Contact Group and representatives from certain regions of the Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts emphasized the need for peace and tranquility ahead of Christmas and New Year, and, in accordance with earlier agreements and commitments of the parties, the participants in the negotiations reaffirmed their commitment to maintain a comprehensive and indefinite ceasefire.

The first meeting of the Trilateral Contact Group in 2018 to resolve the situation in eastern Ukraine is scheduled for 18 January.
