While in neighboring countries obelisks are demolished with blasphemous cruelty, historical justice is restored and monuments to heroes are built in the Belarusian hinterland. A resident of the village of Mokhro, Brest Region, found a cemetery of Polish partisans himself in a deep forest. Thanks to his initiative, he managed to establish the names of six dead partisans, who fell defending their families from the Ukrainian nationalists - the Banderites. Today, a monument was unveiled in the partisan forest.

The deaf woods on the edge of Belarus: you can't get to the Internet here and an ordinary car hardly passes through. German soldiers didn't want to enter the Belarusian swamps, so these places of Ivanovo District turned into the land of partisans. Entire villages with their infrastructure were hiding among the bushes, and not many locals know about this place.  Wooden shavings are all that's left of the grave crosses. In 1943, the inhabitants of Poland were buried under them. They were the partisans helping the Belarusians.

There were five detachments in the Pinsk partisan brigade. One of them bore the name of Kosciuszko and consisted of ethnic Poles who defended their villages from Ukrainian nationalists.

Historical Justice

In the summer of 1943, Banderites simultaneously attacked hundreds of Ukrainian villages. Ethnic Poles who lived in them were killed with their entire families. Thousands of people died. Resident of the village of Balandichi Vasiliy Moisievich told us how the Banderites killed people. According to him, people were buried in rows.

The cemetery of the partisans was found in the forest by a local resident. A monument to the Polish partisans was built.  The mourning meeting was attended by district leaders, local residents and schoolchildren. The Polish part was represented by the Union of Poles in Belarus.

Lilia Muraveiko, head of the Pinsk department of the Union of Poles in Belarus:

“This is a landmark event in the Year of Historical Memory. It is nice that the memory of the Belarusian and Polish peoples is marked here. I would like the memory to remain memory regardless of the events that take place. A terrible crime should not go unpunished. And it does not matter that many years have passed and the victims are not our compatriots. The case of the Polish guerrillas' deaths is now being dealt with by the prosecutor's office.”

The searching works on Voschin will proceed. This year, specialists will come here to establish the exact place of burial of the victims of Nazism.
