Number of adults suffering from obesity in the world has doubled since 1990. This is reported by BelTA with reference to TASS.

According to a study by the World Health Organization (WHO), in 2022 the number of obese people will be more than 1 billion, that is, we are talking about every eighth inhabitant of the planet. "Since 1990, the prevalence of obesity among adults has more than doubled in the world, and among children and adolescents (aged 5 to 19 years) by four times," the organization stated.

The WHO recalled that obesity can lead to cardiovascular disease, diabetes and some types of cancer. "This new study emphasizes the importance of prevention and treatment of obesity from an early age," said WHO Director General Tedros Adanom Ghebreyesus.
