New bison population emerges in Belarus

4 февраля 2015

50 bison, along with 200 deer imported from Lithuania and Poland, were set free into the wild in the Vitebsk region, taken to the very north of the country from the Bialowieza Forest and Grodno region agricultural lands. According to recent data, there are currently 958 bison in Belarus.

Restoring the northern bison population is an ambitious project of the local hunting farm and the National Academy of Sciences.

The new population and their movements will be observed and tracked by scientists with the help of GPS collars.
