By Yan Pashkevich: The village of Mezhdurechie in Volozhin District has become the gate of time. A festival of historical reconstruction has taken place there.
Napoleon's army and the troops of the Russian Empire set up their camps in the village. The guests of the gallant days of the 19th century were met with mazurka, polonaise, and waltz.
The armies had breakfast, and the smell of chicken and potatoes was in the air, while cook gave out bread to the soldiers. The cavalry invited everyone to see the military show. Martial singing elevated the spirit of the soldiers, and members of the aristocracy were demonstrating the fashion of the time – oriental robes and the curved sword, the symbol of the nobility. It is also here that the national fencing school was revived, which is one of the best schools in the world.
Despite the nasty weather and heavy rain, the atmosphere was festive, and nothing could spoil the day. The guests watched infantry soldiers hold a triathlon competition.
After that, the guests could volunteer and take part in the battle between the French and Russian armies.
