More than a thousand people gathered on January 14 at the memorial complex on the site of the village of Ola, burnt by the Nazis during the Great Patriotic War, for a requiem meeting dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the tragedy of the village, BelTA reports.

The meeting was attended by Prosecutor General Andrei Shved, Head of the Office for Presidential Affairs Yuri Nazarov, Deputy Prime Minister Igor Petrishenko and other honored guests.

Before the mourning ceremony the facts about the genocide in the territory of Svetlogorsk District were revealed by the exhibition-presentation "Without Statute of Limitations".

Under the chime of bells the participants of the event walked along the former village street, visited the places of former houses, once filled with voices of villagers. As a sign of sorrow for those whose fates were cut short in the blazing Ola, residents of Gomel Region lit the lamps with the names of destroyed localities in the region.

In the center of the memorial area, people bowed their heads, remembering the tragedy of Ola and other burned villages. People could not hold back tears while listening to the presented song "Ola", which was composed by Sergei Parkhomenko (rapper Serega).
