Back in 1941 the Brest Fortress defenders were the first to face the enemy, and their feats entered the history books. Therefore, the main celebrations traditionally began in the legendary citadel.
Flowers and wreaths were laid at the monument to the liberators at the Freedom Square and the Eternal Fire in the memorial complex Brest Fortress-Hero.
Veterans, officials, clergy, youth honored the fallen heroes with a minute of silence.
An International Race was held in Baranovichy. More than two hundred runners from Belarus, Russia and Lithuania ran a marathon along the central streets of the city.
