Belarus to develop human rights in evolutionary way

Belarus will develop human rights in an evolutionary way. This was stated by Deputy Foreign Minister of Belarus Yuri Ambrazevich at the session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, reports BELTA.

The Belarusian diplomat reminded that the Universal Declaration of Human Rights recently celebrated its 75th anniversary. This document saw the world right after the Second World War. "Intellectuals of that era tried to solve the problem of how to prevent the emergence of a new fascism, the repetition of the just experienced horrors of the war. It seemed to the authors of the declaration that if all states undertake to respect human rights, or, more precisely, to prevent violence of the state over the individual, one race or social group over another, which was seen as the root of the ideology of fascism and its heinous atrocities, including the genocide of the people of Belarus, the basis for civil and international conflicts would disappear," said Yuri Ambrazevich.

According to him, the declaration, along with the two subsequent pacts, was a beautiful attempt to formulate a single standard to which all peoples must conform in order for peace and harmony to prevail both within and between countries.

"However, political life in different states has turned out to be much more complex and diverse than ideals on paper. Each nation solves its problems by its own methods and provides opportunities for the development of the individual and the whole society, as well as the balance of their interests through its historically defined set of criteria and instruments. As the results of the Universal Periodic Review, the defense of reports in treaty bodies, as well as the reports of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus on human rights in Western countries show us, there are no states that fully comply with the texts of international human rights documents," drew attention of the Deputy Minister. - Does this mean that we should abandon the search for harmony in the relationship between the state and the individual, the majority and minorities, the formation of appropriate legal mechanisms and guarantees? Of course, it does not mean.

Yuri Ambrazevich said that Belarus continues its work in this direction. Recent amendments to the Constitution were adopted in a referendum by the method of direct democracy. "We have strengthened the role of the parliament. We are creating our own original institution of people's power - the All-Belarusian People's Assembly with specific powers in strategic areas of our life. Political parties are playing an increasingly active role in the Belarusian society. Everything is going as the Belarusian people determine: steadily, gradually, in an evolutionary way," the diplomat emphasized.
