President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has sent a message of greetings to the participants of the republican scientific-practical conference "State policy in the field of history: problems and prospects of preserving historical truth and memory," BelTA reports.

"We, Belarusians, are the people with a rich centuries-old history. We are proud of our past, great achievements and worthily passed trials of our ancestors. We remember the difficult conditions under which the value foundation of the Belarusian statehood was created. Today we continue building the nation on its basis and strengthen the sovereignty of Belarus," the message of greetings reads.

Alexander Lukashenko noted that modern challenges of the global world pose a threat of losing the spiritual and moral foundation, without which there is no future for the people and the country. "Therefore, we must be more principled and uncompromising in defending the truth, educate the younger generation by the example of traditional values of Belarusians, their heroic and labor feats. The leading role in this important mission belongs to historical science," the Belarusian leader emphasized.

The President expressed his conviction that the conference, which is being held on the eve of the Day of National Unity, will become another confident step towards comprehension of epochal events of the past, will provide answers to the most difficult questions, will serve the common cause of popularization of the national history of Belarus.
