Unknown painting of Yan Damelya to be presented to public

Natalia Bordilovskaya: Sensation of the Year of Culture! National Art Museum of Belarus announced presentation of an unknown painting by Yan Damelya. The work of the early 19th century created in Minsk and considered to be one his best cloth lay unattended for decades.

The artist was born in the territory of present-day Latvia. He studied in Vilnius and spent the last years of his life in Minsk. Most of Damelya's works are dedicated to the Belarusian capital, but during the Second World War, they were all lost. Up to now Belarus could boast only of three Master's paintings. One of them is in the National Art Museum, the second is in Vankovich House Museum, the third painting is in a village in Gomel Region.
