Minsk Ghetto Chronicles to be preserved in animation

Belarusfilm is preparing a documentary cartoon about the events of the Holocaust together with colleagues from St. Petersburg. This is the first joint product of our national film studio and Lenfilm. The Euroasian Jewish Congress also supports the project.

The main characters are Pinchus Dobin and Al Dobermann. Both saved 13 lives of ghetto prisoners. In October 1943, a shelter was created right in the epicenter of events, under the house, which still stands on Sukhoi Street in Minsk. All 263 days, 26 people were hiding from German soldiers. 13 died right under the ground. They were flooded, the passageways were covered with bricks.

The episode is recorded in the series "The Chronicle of  Minsk Ghetto". This year the documentary project was marked by the special prize of the President of Belarus.

Dmitry Brodsky, producer of the project "263 Nights" (Russia):
"It's still the rarest story with an almost happy ending. Because somebody survived."

The painted characters have no dialogues, just emotional screams. The story about the case in the Minsk ghetto will have non-standard running time for the  animation of Belarusfilm, it's 26 minutes.

The cost of the project is also a record-breaking 430 thousand Belarusian rubles. In summer, Russian colleagues will join the Belarusian animators. They will work on the documentary and promote our animation  throughout the CIS.
