The day that Belarus has been waiting for a decade. November 7, 2020 is now not just another holiday of the Great October Revolution, but a revolution in the Belarusian energy sector! From this moment our country is in the elite club of peaceful atom powers. It is among the few ones that have put the most daring technologies at the service of their economy and the people.
The President said that this moment will definitely go down in history. This is the most ambitious project in recent history.
The BelNPP project meets all safety requirements. This has been repeatedly confirmed by international expert missions (including the IAEA, the World Association of NPP Organizations). It is built according to the Russian NPP-2006 project and belongs to the revolutionary projects with water reactors of the third generation and increased safety.
The total capacity is 2,400 MW. The reactor building has a double containment. It will not be damaged in the event of an earthquake, hurricane, explosion and other external influences. Thus, Belarus receives a stable, environmentally friendly source of energy, which will provide about a third of domestic needs.
Belarus is quite rightly proud of its food security. BelNPP also guarantees the energy security! BelNPP is the most advanced, safest, most reliable and technologically advanced project in its field. The future generations will fully appreciate it, the President is sure.
It is difficult to reproach Belarus for neglecting safety requirements. More precisely, it is impossible. And all our neighbors know this for sure!
