Belarus introduces marginal surcharge to contract price for importers

Today it is important that all participants of the food chain (producers of raw materials, processors, importers and trade) worked as a coherent mechanism. Within five working days (until Wednesday inclusive), prices, or rather trade markups for the rest of the goods, should be adjusted according to the decree of the Council of Ministers.

Everyone will be responsible for the price distortions: be it a store, a wholesaler or a manufacturer, after proving where the failure occurred. If it is necessary to increase the price of a particular product, it will be determined by a package of documents for the producers, which they will submit to the state authorities.

The most important thing in them is the validity of costs and whether everything is done to reduce them.

"As for the importers, they are introduced a surcharge on the maximum contract price. The contract price must be justified, the corresponding justification should be available to the importer and kept on paper or electronically, taking into account the requirements of the law. And this justification is an obligatory part of the economic justification of the selling price. Thus, the importer must have a justification of the entire chain of supply of the products to the Republic of Belarus: the contract price and customs duties, the cost of delivery of the goods, compulsory insurance (if required), other costs and the importer's mark-up. We will see in what ranges the goods are imported, for each commodity group, see how these price ranges change, and analyze the reasons for price increases for each range, for each commodity group. That way we will be able to identify possible abuses of overstating the contract price and take appropriate action in response," said Ivan Vezhnovets, First Deputy Minister of antitrust regulation and trade of Belarus.

The list of goods that must be on the shelves in stores, whether it's a supermarket or a small store near the house, will soon be clarified. This will guarantee their availability and a wide choice for our customers.
