The Lithuanian authorities have supported the idea of returning men of conscription age to Ukraine. The President and the Prime Minister of the country spoke in favor of this idea during a discussion on LRT radio.

President Gitanas Nauseda said that Ukraine should have the means and tools to "invite its young men to serve the homeland".

"We must cooperate with Ukraine in every sense," he said.

Prime Minister Ingrida Shimonite allowed for action on Lithuania's part to help Ukraine return the men.

"We could probably look for some ways to make sure that the man has fulfilled his mobilization duty or is exempted from it when we consider extending his residence permit," she said.

And she added that these measures should be discussed at the EU level as well
