The website of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine reported on the official decision to exclude Alexander Nevsky from the list of commemorated saints and remove his memorial day from the calendar. The newly emerged church called Alexander Nevsky "an image of Russian propaganda."

Prince Alexander Nevsky was ranked by the Russian Orthodox Church as a saint back in 1547. According to the Russian Orthodox Church, these and other actions of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, including "rapprochement" with the Roman Catholic Church, have led to a split of Orthodoxy in the world.
