2021 IIHF World Championship: Belarus – Latvia application wins over Finland

Today, a vote was held at the annual IIHF congress in Cologne, and Belarus and Latvia will host the 2021 IIHF World Championship.

The voting took two rounds, and the joint application from Minsk and Riga won by a margin of 55 to 52 votes. The other contender to host the World Championship was Finland.

Fans will not have any problems when crossing the border. They will be permitted to enter Belarus without a visa – tickets to matches will suffice.

The slogan of the 2021 IIHF World Championship is Passion Without Borders. Minsk Arena is expected to become the main venue. The rest of the infrastructure for the world’s biggest ice hockey event is also ready. Therefore, hosting the competition will not incur large additional costs.

The 2021 IIHF World Championship will kick off on 7 May, and the final match will be held on 23 May. Minsk will host the semifinals and the final.
