Head of National Olympic Committee of Belarus Viktor Lukashenko to winners of 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona: You're not just champions, you are heroes

"You are not only champions, you are heroes," these were the words  of Viktor Lukashenko, head of the National Olympic Committee of Belarus, addressed to the winners and medalists of the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona who came to celebrate the 30th anniversary of one of the most outstanding sports events. Back then, the Belarusian athletes as part of the CIS team showed an outstanding result: they won 13 gold, 4 silver and 5 bronze medals. 

The champions had a heart-to-heart talk, remembered the events of the Barcelona Olympics and discussed the current state of affairs in Belarusian sport. After the Barcelona Games, the CIS team ceased to exist. And from the end of 1992 the representatives of the former USSR states competed as independent teams.
