Olympics witness another triumph of Belarusian sport

Darya Domracheva and Anton Kushnir received Olympic awards during the Awarding Ceremony yesterday. The anthem of our country was played twice at the Medals Plaza.

Five Olympic gold medals are not only a serious sporting achievement, but also an absolute record of our country. Even the Summer Olympics in Beijing, where there were many more disciplines, and where Belarus had its maximum, witnessed only four awards of the highest standard.
It was the third time Domracheva came to the Medals Plaza for the gold award. Now she is undoubtedly the most popular person at the Olympics: just a few persons have managed to become champion three times during the same Olympics. As for our country, Domracheva is a real heroine. She was awarded the title of Hero of Belarus by the President.
Freestyler Anton Kushnir, though less decorated than the biathlete, on Monday, too, reached the peak of his career. The gold medal in men's aerials of the second Olympics in a row goes to our country: it is a remarkable achievement given the subjectivity of the sport discipline.
In the medal standings, our country has left behind China, Canada, Poland, France, Italy, the UK and other countries - larger by territory and population.
