Bitter loss for Olympic movement. Janez Kocijančič dies after severe disease

Sad news has come from the world of sports. President of the European Olympic Committees Janez Kocijančič died on June 1 after a severe disease. His death is a great and bitter loss to the international Olympic movement, to which he dedicated his life. The bright memory of Janez Kocijančič will forever remain in the hearts of relatives, colleagues and the entire sports community, said President of Belarus, President of the National Olympic Committee Alexander Lukashenko in his letter of condolence to President of the International Olympic Committee Thomas Bach. 

The head of the European Olympic movement personally overseen the preparation of the main multi-sport event in 2019. It is mainly due to Kocijančič that our country got the right to host the Second European Games and the 25th Assembly of European Olympic Committees. Janez believed in the sports potential of our country and always pointed to its highly developed infrastructure. He regularly met with the President of Belarus and never refused an interview to anyone - he has carried the ideals of sport through his entire life. 

We will remember Janez Kocijančič as a man of his word, a professional, happy and young grandfather of European sport.
