Addressing yesterday’s meeting on territorial defence, Alexander Lukashenko said that only nationwide character of defence can guarantee successful protection of the state. This system has been developing in Belarus for more than 10 years. Events that occur in the world today only confirm the validity of the decisions taken at the time. Warfare methods have transformed greatly in recent years, priority targets being not the armed forces, but state infrastructure.
The President instructed the State Secretariat of the Security Council to determine the date of testing the readiness of territorial defence forces and tasked local authorities with improving the efficiency of territorial defence administration, including at the expense of professional and careful selection of military-trained reserve and officers.
Yesterday marked the start of a two-day gathering featuring chairmen of regional executive committees and Minsk City Executive Committee on territorial defence. During theoretical classes the governors will be told about the problems of local authorities on preparing and deploying militia. Today will see practical lessons at a military shooting range.
