Alexander Lukashenko: no need to expand free economic zones in Belarus

This was stated by the President when visiting the woodworking enterprises on the territory of FEZ Mogilev built by Lithuanian investors. These are Euro 100 million invested in the Belarusian economy. Belarus is open for all investors, including from the European Union. This was discussed at the meeting of the President of Belarus with the Ambassador of Lithuania. Starting from July 6, Lithuania is chairing the European Union, thus it represents not only its own interests, but the interests of the EU as well. The Lithuanian diplomat noted the favorable conditions for business in Belarus.


Sergei Gusachenko reports: The Lithuanian company came to the free economic zone Mogilev in 2011. In 2 years a large enterprise was constructed here. The Lithuanians manufacture furniture and components. The area of the enterprise is 60.000 square meters. The invested amount in the capital stock exceeded Euro 90 million. The enterprise is working against the orders of the largest furniture brand - IKEA.


Within the first 6 months of this year, almost 900 new enterprises were opened in the Mogilev Region. One of the largest projects is the Lithuanian enterprise in the woodworking sphere. According to the President, Belarus is open for cooperation with investors.


The President became familiar with the production process. The Head of the State stressed that the arrival of the competitor on the market shall embolden the domestic industry and show the way work shall be done.


The issue of free economic zones was also discussed. According to the President, there is no need to expand them. The Ministry of Economy Nikolai Snopkov agrees.


The Mogilev economic zone is one of the best in Belarus. The residents of FEZ are half of the industry of the region.


Alexander Lukashenko also visited another company with Lithuanian capital. The investment project on the manufacture of furniture is being implemented at Mebelain. The cost of the project is Euro 16 million. Both companies invested a total of over Euro 100 million into the projects and the Belarusian economy. These are the largest direct investments of Lithuania into Belarus.
