According to Alexander Lukashenko, it is high time to solve urgent problems in the mechanical engineering industry drastically. Today’s discussion featured about 80 participants, including the Prime Minister, heads of relevant ministries, governors, heads of enterprises, banks, and corporations, as well as representatives of the Academy of Sciences and the country’s universities.

A similar meeting last year urged to work out measures for developing Belarus’ mechanical engineering organisations. The government has had more than a year to outline a development strategy for the economy sector that has been in decline in recent years. Substantial state support has been provided to the leading companies. Enterprises producing machinery and automotive components have been assisted in refinancing their loan debt and replenishing current assets, which has created preconditions for their efficient operation.

Belarus’ mechanical engineering complex currently comprises of over 270 large and medium-sized organisations employing over 178,000 workers. The government has managed to preserve this industrial sector and is currently tasked with improving its economy and increasing its competitiveness in external markets. Today, the President has instructed the government to mobilise resources and power to improve the situation in mechanical engineering.
