President holds meeting on situation in Belarusian hockey

By Nikolai Stulo: The main requirement set by the President at today’s meeting on the situation in Belarusian hockey is efficiency. The recent World Championship revealed a number of problem issues, such as the lack of team play and proper competition level, as well the work of the coaching staff. The country’s leading clubs can not boast of a good performance. Obviously, reliance on foreign coaches and players does not produce desired results. Among other important issues is national championship development and reserve preparation, which is especially relevant given the fact that Belarus and Latvia have received the right to jointly host the Hockey World Championship in 2021.

Alexander Lukashenko tasked new Chairman of the Ice Hockey Federation Semyon Shapiro with developing hockey in the country’s regions by providing equal conditions to the clubs.

The President set a goal to demonstrate high performance at the upcoming championship. The right to host the event is the victory of the Belarusian people, Alexander Lukashenko believes. The politician also spoke about the result and reward ratio — the hockey players should be rewarded for the results they achieve.

The meeting resulted in a decision to amend the state hockey development program until 2021, which will not require financial costs, but rather organizational measures.
