Alexander Lukashenko meets with President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov

By Natalia Breus: Belarus is Turkmenistan’s reliable supporter and friend in the center of Europe, as stated by President Alexander Lukashenko at a meeting with Turkmenistan’s leader Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

Today marks the first negotiation day of the Belarusian President’s official visit to Turkmenistan. The politicians started communication with one-on-one talks.

Belarus-Turkmenistan relations are developing on a solid economic basis. The countries can essentially increase the volume of mutual trade in the long run. The full-fledged dialogue is proved by a large-scale joint project - the Garlyk mining and processing plant. The facility has created a new industry in Turkmenistan and is a landmark image-building project for Belarus. Belarus is ready to share experience with Turkmenistan in various spheres.

After the one-on-one conversation, the politicians were joined by delegations. The talks resulted in a package of agreements in education, crime prevention, tourism and culture. In a joint statement, the two Presidents stressed their intention to continue promoting joint projects and mutually beneficial cooperation.

Alexander Lukashenko and Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov took part in the opening of the Belarusian Embassy in Ashgabat, planted trees in front of the embassy building and attended the People’s Memory Memorial Complex.

Friday will see the official launch of the Garlyk mining and processing plant. The ceremony is planned to feature the Presidents of the two countries.
