Russia and Ukraine wanted to agree on the lease of Crimea during the peace talks. This was stated by President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko in an interview with the TV channel "Russia 1," writes BELTA.

During the interview, Alexander Lukashenko described how the negotiations between the two countries were organized. According to the President, a significant role was played by his youngest son Nikolai, who helped to organize a telephone conversation with Vladimir Zelenski. After a long conversation, the President of Ukraine finally agreed to hold the negotiations with the Russian side in the territory of Belarus. They were later moved to Istanbul, the West insisted.

"Putin gives me a document that was signed by the delegations. It was normal, even on Crimea - some kind of long lease, on Donbass, in the east. A normal agreement. But now it's no longer possible. Now it is already the territory of Russia according to the Constitution. And there was a normal draft, and it was already agreed that the Foreign Ministries would initial it, and then the heads of states would have to decide, sign it and so on. It was a good process, but they gave up on it," noted Alexander Lukashenko.

The head of the state said that Nikolai is now studying at Beijing University, but he is still pushing to organize negotiations. "I say, I understand, but you don't understand everything yet," the President added.

At the same time, he pointed out that the West cannot be trusted in this process. Even the Minsk agreements turned out to be just a pause for them to have time to build up their military power in Ukraine over the past years.

"There can only be one thing here. If we negotiate a peace process, the war stops, no movement: no tanks, no military. Once moved, I believe we must use nuclear weapons. That's the only way to talk to them. You can't have a dialogue with them and trust them. They will be deceived," Alexander Lukashenko is convinced.
