By Natalia Breus: President Alexander Lukashenko has appointed Kirill Rudyi head of the Belarusian diplomatic mission in China. Belarus’ interests will be represented in Georgia by Mikhail Myatlikov.

Kirill Rudyi has for the last three years served as Assistant for Economic Affairs at the Presidential Administration. He is the author of the book Financial Diet, which has been published this year. Rudyi’s experience as Financial Adviser at the Belarusian Embassy in China came in very handy.

Alexander Lukashenko has repeatedly stressed that emphasis in the foreign policy should be placed on the economy. Dialogue between Minsk and Beijing has been very intense in recent years, in many ways thanks to the countries’ leaders. Alexander Lukashenko and Xi Jinping met three times last year and have already held talks at a Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit this year. Belarus and China have been implementing tens of joint projects in different spheres from logistics to space exploration. The Great Stone Industrial Park near Minsk is China’s real foothold in establishing the Silk Road Economic Belt.

It comes as no surprise that the President requires rapid responses to the Chinese partners’ offers. One of the first tasks for Rudyi as Ambassador is to prepare the President’s visit to China, scheduled for the autumn. A roadmap following the leaders’ negotiations should become a cooperation guide for the coming years.

Mikhail Myatlikov has been appointed Belarusian Ambassador to Georgia. He will have to create a diplomatic mission in Tbilisi from scratch. The Georgian Embassy has been operating in Minsk since 2007. Myatlikov has experience in working at the Council of Ministers, and for the last five years he has served as Director of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Tasked with reaching a trade turnover of 200 million dollars, Belarus is already planning to hold a large-scale national exhibition at Expo Georgia in Tbilisi in early September.

Besides, Alexander Lukashenko has approved the appointment of Vladimir Mironovich as Belarus’ Consul General in Istanbul and Viktor Cherekhovich as Belarus’ Consul General in New York.
